Comment on the theory of Anatta

Comment on the theory of Anatta

According to the theory of anatta, the Buddha claims to have avoided the two extreme views, namely eternalism and annihiationism. On this standpoint, the Buddha's teaching of Dhamma is considered to be the " middle path " concept. He rejects not only the Uppanisadic view of the existence of the permanent self, but also the nihilists , according to Ajita Kesakampala.

However, the Buddha himself, accepts the doctrine of karma and rebirth. His " middle position ", however constitutes some major problem. How can reconcile the anatta doctrine, which denies the permanent self, with the doctrine of karma and rebirth, which seems to presuppose the identity and continuity of the person ? Is it possible to talk of personal identity and unity of consciousness without having recourse to the notion of the permanent self ? The solution of these problems will found after the theory of consciousness in Buddhism has been presented.

Without thread there is no clothes.
Without physical body there is no person.
Yet the physical body is not - self.
It perishes every moment.
Who will remain in the world because of self ?
